"Mobile shelving" usually means archive-style hand-wheel systems. Mobile pallet racking is the heavy-duty cousin: full pallet bays on motorised carriages. Both are relocatable — but the contractor brief is very different.
How to tell which you have
- Bay height under 2.5m, hand-wheel on the end — mobile shelving / roller racking
- Bay height 4m+, electric motor on the end, fork-lift accessible aisles — mobile pallet racking
Why it matters
Mobile pallet racking carriages weigh 1–3 tonnes empty. Lifting gear, transport and reinstall sequencing are categorically different. Always brief your contractor with the manufacturer's plate photo and a video of the carriage in motion.
