Every mobile shelving relocation must be followed by a PUWER 1998 inspection and new compliance certificate before the system is reloaded. Here is what you need to know.
Why a New PUWER Certificate Is Required After Relocation
Mobile shelving is work equipment under PUWER 1998 — the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations. PUWER requires that work equipment is installed correctly and inspected by a competent person before use. When a mobile shelving system is relocated, it is effectively reinstalled in a new location — which means a new PUWER inspection and compliance certificate is required before the system is loaded and used.
The original PUWER certificate from the previous installation is not valid at the new location. The inspection must confirm that the system has been correctly reassembled and installed in its new position.
What the Post-Relocation PUWER Inspection Covers
The post-relocation inspection checks that floor tracks are level within BS EN 15095 tolerances, carriages run smoothly and correctly on the tracks, all safety devices are correctly reinstated and functioning, the structure of the shelving is sound and correctly assembled, and load notices are in place showing the safe working load of the system.
Any defects identified during the inspection must be rectified before the system is loaded.
PUWER Certification Included with Every Rackstor Relocation
Every mobile shelving relocation carried out by Rackstor UK Ltd includes a post-installation PUWER 1998 inspection and written compliance certificate as standard. We do not hand over a relocated system without confirming it is safe to load and use.
This is not an optional extra — it is a legal requirement and we include it in every relocation quotation as standard.
Annual Inspection After Relocation
In addition to the post-relocation PUWER certificate, the system will require its annual BS EN 15095 expert inspection within 12 months of reinstallation. Rackstor UK Ltd provides annual inspection and planned maintenance contracts for all makes and models of mobile shelving across the UK. Call 0800 654 6955 or use the enquiry form.
