Industrial and 3PL mobile shelving is a different beast to archive systems — heavier loads, larger footprints, FLT movement and live shift patterns. Here is the planning model that works.
FLT exclusion zones
Forklift activity must be excluded from the relocation zone — non-negotiable. Plan a hard barrier and confirm with the warehouse manager before mobilising.
Shift handover scheduling
Most relocations slot into shift-change windows (typically 22:00–06:00). The handover briefing must include the relocation team's location and stop signals.
Dust control
Industrial environments often carry abrasive dust. HEPA vacuums and dust sheets reduce ingress to bearings during reassembly.
Sequencing for live operations
Phased moves with rolling re-zone work best. Aisle 1 vacated, dismantled, reinstalled, restocked, then aisle 2.
PUWER post-install
Industrial mobile shelving is in scope for PUWER 98 just like archive systems. Certificate issued by a SEMA-aligned inspector within five working days.
